Sekhem.bmp

Sekhem
The Sekhem scepter represents magic and supernatural power, especially that of the Ancestors. The Sekhem scepter was associated with the cult of the Ancestors and was used in propitiary rites. In addition in Egyptian artwork the deceased is normally shown holding the sekhem scepter when depicted as an Ancestor receiving offerings. Sekhem is also the base of the name of the great Goddess Sekhemet, who was associated with magic and Ancestral powers. The Sekhem symbol depicts an actual ritual wand that was used in mortuary ceremonies.
