Last, we will discuss the Claw Extension. More than likely you will not see this hand type in someone who is wanting and willing to be read. The claw extension will be presented just like it sounds. The fingers are bent in a grasping fashion which parallels their true nature; they don’t want to give anything away. Be careful with judging this extension too quickly though. Arthritic hands can also give this appearance and its owner may be one of the most generous you’ll find.

If you have studied palmistry at all, or even just picked up the most elementary of books on the subject, you already know something about hand shapes and are familiar with the common terms: Elementary, Practical, Spatula, Conic, Philosophical, and Psychic hand shapes. Another popular classification for hand shapes would be the Elemental hand shapes of Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. These are somewhat more generalized, but are easier to identify. I prefer to use a combination of the two forms of hand classifications, using their elemental shapes as an aid in further clarifying their basic shapes.

The Elementary Hand

The elementary hand is large, with short stubby fingers, usually with squared tips. There are relatively few lines on the palm, but the ones that can be seen clearly are generally short, with the exception of the life line. Generally, a person with this hand shape will be found in nature. They enjoy physical, hands-on type work and have tendencies towards being stubborn.

The Practical Hand

The practical hand is more of a square shape in the palm area, with short fingers mirroring this square tendency. The lines on this palm are deep and easily read. Generally, a person with this hand shape will be found in an active profession. They have an appreciation for consistency and are honest, patient, hard-working people.

The Spatula Hand

The palm of the speculate hand is also somewhat square, but the main difference from the practical hand is seen in the fingers. The fingers of the speculate hand are reasonably long, often with gnarled joints and flat tips. The lines on this palm are deep, and easily read as well, but there are more of them present here than on the practical hand. Generally, this hand will belong to a person who is rather social and liked by his/her peers. They are confident and confident in their mechanical abilities.

The Conic Hand

The conic hand is a bit harder to describe, but somewhat resembles an inverted triangle. The palm is narrow at the base of the hand and wider at the base of the fingers. The fingers are generally well proportioned to the palm, not noticeably long or short, and somewhat pointed at the tips. The lines on this palm are not deep, but abundant, and most generally curved. Look for this hand on a person who is imaginative and creative, as well as impractical on occasion. A artist to say the least.

The Philosophical Hand

The philosophical hand is more rectangular in shape. It is narrow, both at the base of the hand as well as at the base of the fingers. The fingers are long and are generally fleshy, but not overly so, at the tips. The lines on the palm are deep and abundant. This hand will generally be found on an intellectual person, who may be very extroverted or very reclusive. Here is where the absent-minded professor lives.

The Psychic Hand

The psychic hand is long and slender, almost oval in shape. The palm is narrow at the base of the hand, wider through the middle of the hand, and narrow again at the base of the fingers. The most obvious feature of this hand type is its tendency to be accompanied by a very pointed pinky finger. The hand is full of lines, and not only in the palm area. This person is not likely to be physically strong. The true psychic hand is rare, but is more commonly found in Oriental cultures, than in Western civilization.

The Mixed Hand

This is the most common hand type you will probably see. With the demands of culture and society to be good at everything, to do everything, and experience everything, coupled with the mixing of races, our hands have developed into a mixture of our genetics and experiences. They vary from palm to palm, from finger to finger, and from mound to mound. This is the hand of adaptability, versatility, and the Jack of all trades.

The Earth Hand

The Earth Hand is similar in description to the Elementary Hand, but the emphasis is less on the fact that it contains a squared palm and short stubby fingers. The classification of the Earth Hand is more dependent on the lines of the hand, or rather the lack of them. It is common for a hand to be both Elementary and Earthy.

The Air Hand

The Air Hand is square palmed with long fingers. It is common in this hand shape to see little lines running up towards the middle, ring, and pinky fingers as well as a scattering of lines abundant throughout the palm and finger areas.

The Fire Hand

The Fire Hand is rectangular through the palm with short fingers. This palm is also abundant with small, fine lines through out.

The Water Hand

The description of the Water Hand is similar to the Philosophical Hand with its rectangular palm and long fingers. Often there will be a distinct hollow in the center of the palm. The overall appearance of the hand will be thin, not to the point of being bony, rather than full and fleshy.
