Major Lines
Finally, we reach the lines of the palm. First, we will talk about the three major lines; then we will discuss some minor lines that you might encounter. Chances are that you are already familiar with the Head, the Heart, and the Life Lines. These lines stand out more clearly than the smaller lines and should be observed for depth as well as length.
The Heart Line
The Heart Line is the upper-most horizontal major line that crosses the palm. Some consider it to be the most important in the hand, but that, you can decide for yourself. If your general tendencies are emotional in nature, you will probably see it as the most important aspect of the palm. It is a reflection of who we love and the depth to which we show our love.
The Heart Line begins at the percussion of the hand and can end in any number of places, most commonly, somewhere below the Saturn or Jupiter fingers. Occasionally, the Heart Line will start further in than the percussion of the hand and appear to be floating in the palm, this is rare, and is often associated with people who prefer nature and the company of animals, rather than the company of other people.
It is natural for the depth of the Heart Line to vary slightly as it makes its way across the palm. Those who possess a deep, well-defined Heart Line are more emotional in nature. They are more likely to be loyal in relationships and will have relatively few branches stemming from their Heart Lines. A shallow Heart Line will generally contain many branches and affectations that will affect the depth of emotion that is felt by its bearer. They are generally more flighty and less likely to be content when faced with long-term commitment.
Branches on the Heart Line show the amount of “other interests” that are vying for attention in a person’s life. Dual or sister lines that appear parallel to the Heart Line are indications that a person has more than one emotional bond in their life. It is possible, but the presence of a dual line does not necessarily mean that the secondary emotional bond is with another person; it could be relative to the importance that a person places on their job or with a given hobby. The curve of the Heart Line seems to reflect the degree to which the practical mind impacts the emotions of the heart. A Heart Line that curves downward towards the Head Line, likely belongs to someone who is very practical and serious in their approach to love. The Heart Line of a more romantic and emotional person will be curved upward away from the Head Line.
Chains and loops are not generally coveted characteristics on the Heart Line as they are generally combined with a shallow depth and show a tendency for difficulty and dissatisfaction in lasting relationships. Shallow chains can sometimes deepen and smooth out as people age, but not always. As usual, a few clear lines can strength and support in the energies of the Heart Line, but abundant, shallow ones have a scattering effect. The occurrence of dots on the Heart Line is often temporary and can indicate emotional changes in a person’s life. Blue and black dots are generally associated with trauma and emotional loss. Red dots are associated with rapid, emotionally based changes. White dots are associated with acceptance of circumstances and personal spiritual enlightenment.
The Head Line
The Head Line is found in the middle of the palm and is the second from the top major horizontal line. It reflects your capacity for thought, imagination, attention to detail, and family attachment.
The Head Line begins on the inside of the palm, between the thumb and Jupiter finger, and travels horizontally across the hand towards its percussion. It can end in a variety of places and its length is generally determined by the capacity for imagination and attention to detail that is shown by the person. A long Head Line will stretch through, into, or almost into the Lunar Mount. The Head Line that travels all the way through the Lunar Mount and into the percussion of the hand will likely belong to someone who is much focused on detail…can we say perfectionist? The Head Line that ends in the Lunar Mount will likely have a good imagination and the Head Line that ends just before entering the Lunar Mount will not only have a good imagination, but the ability to focus their imagination into something useful. A short Head Line will end somewhere below the Saturn finger or even before. This is indicative of a person who is concerned with having material wealth; more so, if it is deep as well. The comparative lengths of your Head Line and your Heart Line will tell you if you make your decisions with your head or with your heart. If your Head Line is longer than your Heart Line, you will make the majority of your decisions with your head. If Your Heart Line is the longer of the two, you will make your decisions with your heart. Ideally, they will be somewhat balanced in their length and your decisions will be a result of the combination of both influences.
The depth of the Head Line relates to how intense your thought processes normally are. Example: A deep thinker, who researches all the aspects of a decision, will also have a deep, clearly marked Head Line. Ideally, the Head Line and the Heart Line will be similar in depth, and will balance each other out.
Some branches along the Head Line are desirable. They serve to broaden your scope of understanding and keep you from being overtly narrow-minded. Too many branches could cause the problem of being too open-minded. A Head Line that has relatively few branches and then splits into a fork or trident at the end of it indicates the ability to see all sides of a situation and a greater degree of overall balance in the mental realms.
Chains and loops along the entire length of the Head Line and make the path of the Head Line less clear and show difficulty within the cognitive process. This is not to say that when this occurs, that the person is not intelligent, more than likely they are just easily distracted. There are different opinions concerning the appearance of chaining at the start of the Head Line. Personally, I hold to the theory that these chains represent our physical as well as mental health as children, especially when the Head Line and Life Lines are together at their start. When the Head Line and the Life Line have distinctively separate beginnings, I would then hold that the Head Line relates to mental health, and the Life Line relates to physical health.
The Life Line
The Life Line is the third of the major lines of the palm. It is the seat of your life force and indicator of your over-all physical health. Certain points along the Life Line are associated with certain ages and can help as a reference to where we are currently along the path of life.
It begins at, or just below the Head Line and arcs around the Mount of Venus reaching toward the base of the palm. The length of the Life Line seems in many cases to be a case of genetics and is not nearly as important as its depth. Its quality tells about your LIFE…not about your death.
The depth of the Life Line is in direct relation to how much impact you will have on the world around you. If it is deep and clear, with few breaks, branches, or chains, you are looking at someone who is very involved with the direction of their life and has a significant impact on those they come in contact with. A person possessing a thin, erratic, and shallow Life Line will have less of an impact on the world around him and probably doesn’t care to either. The Life Line on your active hand reflects your outer life that is visible to the world. The Life Line on you passive hand reflects your inner, private life and can give you more honest insight things you don’t want the world to see. Example: The Life Line on my active hand is deep and well defined, gently curving, with no erratic angles or breaks in it. The Life Line on my passive hand is broken in at least four different places and contains sharp angles in two other places. People who intact with me on a social level, will tell you that I appear to be highly adaptable and handle change with little effort. Personally, I know different. I hate change. It disrupts my sleep and eating habits and I will often get sick as a result. Unfortunately, change is unpleasant to me personally; and although it is a constant and real part of my life; I try very to handle the situations thrown at me gracefully and not let others know (inner circle of friends excluded) exactly how much it bothers me.
Other interesting features of the Life Line include how far across the palm it connects to the Head Line, if at all. This reflects the relationship, or lack of it, that you had with your parents. A Life Line that separates very early from the Head Line or does not touch it at all shows a lack of emotional attachment to your parents. This is not necessarily a bad thing, you just like to make your own decisions and think for yourself without being hindered by family entanglements. A Life Line that follows the Head Line for a short while before separating can indicate that the opinions of your parents are an important factor in the decisions you make in life, but they don’t get the deciding vote. It is a good indicator of how early or late in your life you left home and started making your own choices. A Life Line that follows the Head Line too long…well, you really should consider thinking for yourself once in a while. A Life Line that runs close to the thumb shows a person who does not care for travel and who will consistently choose the “safe” road. A Life Line that travels toward the middle of the palm shows a person who has or would like to travel widely.
Minor Lines
Rising lines are the smaller lines on the palm that appear to be trying to reach the fingers and are not found on everyone. They can give strength and support to the dominant characteristics associated with the areas that they rise toward. They can start anywhere on the palm, but will always end up pointing toward a particular finger.
The Rising Line to Mercury
Mercury Rising lines begin in the lower portion of the palm, usually originating in the center of the palm or in the Lunar Mount, and continue up toward the Mercury finger. It strengthens the communication of the Mercury finger and mount. If the Mercury finger and mount are weak in some way, a Rising Line of Mercury can be the perfect compliment for communication for this person.
The Rising Line to Apollo
The Rising Line to Apollo answers another of the BIG questions people ask. Will I be famous? Not all famous people sport an Apollo Rising Line, but the majority of them will. At this point you must remember that fame is a relative concept. Fame can range from affluence amongst ones peers, to the hottest star of the year. Chances are, your definition of fame may not agree with your palm’s definition of fame.
The Rising Line to Saturn
The Rising Line to Saturn is also called the Destiny Line. This is the most common of the minor lines found on the palm. It begins in the lower portion of the palm and rises toward the Saturn finger. The most important thing to remember about this rising line is that less is more; unless, of course, you are willing to sacrifice all of your own desires, for the demands of everyone else in your life. The longer Saturn’s Rising Line is, the more responsibility you will be likely to take on. It is possible to be “too responsible”.
The Rising Line to Jupiter
If you find a Rising Line to Jupiter it the sign of the social leader. It usually begins high in the palm, above the Head Line; although rare, the person will have a greater social impact if the Rising Jupiter Line begins below the Head Line. Many times, this will manifest on the palm of someone who is involved in charities and “causes”, whether it be the local food pantry or a team leader for AA, this is where they will find their calling and feel the most comfortable.
Other Lines
Other lines on the palm are rarer and can hold some interest. They usually indicate particular character strengths in the areas in which they are found. It is not difficult to locate the major lines of the palm, but recognizing and locating the minor lines takes patience and practice. In this section, I will try to describe the “other lines” their locations as thoroughly as possible, so that when you do see them, there will be no doubt.
The Mark of the Teacher
The Mark of the Teacher is comprised of two parallel lines located just below the Mount of Mercury. This only shows that there is natural skill and ability in this area, not necessarily that they have chosen teaching as a profession. These should be carefully examined so that you determine them to be the true marks of a teacher and not…
The Marks of Medical Stigmata
The Marks of Medical Stigmata are also located in the general vicinity of the Mount of Mercury, but consist of five or more clear, parallel lines, rather than the two seen in the mark of the teacher. These can run in any direction; vertical, horizontal, but most often oblique. If this person is not directly involved in the medical field, they will at least have some sort of interest in it.
The Via Lascivia
The Via Lascivia appears similar to a yoke that runs from between the bases of the Jupiter and Saturn fingers to between the bases of the Mercury and Apollo fingers. It shows someone who loves all things decadent and indulgent in life. The lower that the Via Lascivia dips toward the Heart Line, the more likely this person is to shower indulgent pleasures on other people in their lives and not just on themselves. The Via Lascivia should not be confused with…
The Girdle of Venus
The Girdle of Venus also appears as a yoke that encircles the base of the fingers of the hand, but it runs a wider circuit. The Girdle of Venus begins on the Mount of Jupiter and ends in the Mount of Mercury. This shows someone who appreciates art and beauty. Creative expression is a big part of their lives, whether they do the creating themselves or merely exhibit and promote the creativity of others.
The Mark of the Photographer
The Mark of the Photographer or the Camera’s Eye is found on someone who has a distinct talent in the area of visual appearances. It is usually begins in the Mount of Apollo, just underneath the Apollo finger, and arcs around in a reverse “C”. Whether it’s a career or just a hobby, this person has the ability to make it look good!
